Nine Are Paroled by State Prison Board The state pardon board adjourned late Wednesday night, following a meeting at which nine prisoners were paroled. Approximately 50 appli- cations for clemency were heard. The cases were those remaining on a calendar of 128, of which the majority were disposed of at a meeting earlier this month. The board granted five commutations, nine paroles, ‘and deferred 14 cases. Twenty-six prisoners were denied clemency. One application was with- drawn. Among the cases denied was that of Sam Kallel, 70, “lifer” whose case was heard at the last meeting and action deferred.
