T. Tribune’s Grain, Livestock and _ Market Report for Fri., July 10 STOCK QUOTATIONS TAKE UPWARD TREND AFTER EARLY LULL Prices Advance Briskly in Late Trading; Foreign News Is Held Encouraging New York, July 10.—()—The New Closing Prices July 10 Adams Express Alleghany Al. Mill York stock market pushed up siréng-|4M™- Rol ly in late trading Friday after for- eign markets closed with a rather heavy tone. The decision of the head of the Reichsbank to return to Germany from Paris sooner than he had planned was in the main interpreted optimistically in Wall street, where it generally has been felt that German cred requirements would be pro- vided for. The market closed with gains of fractions to 4 points predom- inating. Stocks turned upward after mid- day. Considerable short covering in U. 8. Steel after publication of its unfilled tonnage report, cancelled a 146 point loss and sent it up to reg- ister a gain of 2, half of which was lost in last-minute profit taking. Wall street still watched intently the efforts of the head of the Reichs- bank a large long-term credit, but did not in the main feel any difficul- ties would be encountered in taking care of German credit. requirements. Stocks had a sold-out appearance. After a downward drift during the morning, short coverings on publica- tion of U. 8. Steel’s unfilled tonnage report prompted a general rally, and several issues soon registered gains of a point or more. Early losses of around 2 points in U. 8. and Bethle- hem Steels were recovered, and sev- eral issues went up a point or so. Aside from the steel figures, there was little in domestic news to influ- ence the market. It is notable. how- ever, that monthly statistics are now in some instances making favorable comparisons with last year. ° aca: et: . July wheat, representing the new domestic crop, sold at within 2%: cents of the all-time bottom record. Increased selling pressure associat- ed with wy movement of newly harvested domestic wheat led to price setbacks after early upturns. Pre-; ; |dictions were currerit that the move- ment of new wheat would continue heavy until the bulk of the soft win- ter crop had reached the market the early part of August.
