en en ee RPS pena rerrrewi as 2 eer r re MANDAN NEWS | PLAN T0 OBSERVE SOTH BIRTHDAY OF SCHOOL DISTRICTS Mandan Citizens Will Arrange Program for Founding April 23 Mandan schools plan to observe the 50th anniversary of the founding of Morton county school district No. 1 April 23 at a public program, accord- ing to J. C. Gould, superintendent of Mandan schools and member of the anniversary committee. The district was organized April 23, 1881, when Morton county was a part of Dakota territory. The program, celebrating the anniversary will be in charge of the Mandan board of edu- cation and Rev. G. W. Stewart, chairman of Mandan’s 50th anniver- sary celebration committee. Tentative plans for a program in- clude impromptu speeches by some of the earliest graduates of Manze schools; reminiscences of Mrs. Mar- garet Bingenheimer and Mrs. L. M. Carey, pioneer Morton county teach- ers; skits taken from the minutes of old Morton county educational board meetings and presented by students in the Mandan high school under the direction of Mabel Frey; music by the Mandan Male chorus, and excerpts from Dr. Henry W. Cole's historical account of North Dakota education. Special assembly period exercises for students in Mandan schools also will be given in the afternoon. Mis. W. W. Fuller, Fargo, former Mandan resident, will address the Mandan students and will present a reading on the evening program. COMPLETE SCHEDULE OF CONTEST EVENTS Few Judges Still to Be Picked;| Contest Will Be Held in Man- dan High School Schedule of events in the high school contests of districts Nos. 8 and 9 at Mandan Monday have been com- pleted, according to an announcement made Friday by J. C, Gould, su- perintendent of Mandan schools and manager of the district contests. All contests will be held in the Man- dan high school. Music events will be judged by Hywel C. Rowland, head of the music department of the Uni- versity of North Dakota. Judges for the other contests have not been de- termined, Gould said. Music events will start at 9 a. m., 1:30 p. m. and 7 p. m. Monday and will be held in the Mandan high school auditorium. Commercial con- tests will be held in the Mandan high school commercial department start- ing at 10 a, m. Monday. The declamation contests will be divided in two sections for boys and will begin at 1:30 p. m. Monday. The order of speakers will be chosen by Jot and posted Monday noon. The declamation contests will conclude the afternoon sessions, according to Gould. ROTARY CLUB WILL STAGE GROW HUNT Mandan Group Makes Detailed Arrangements for Event to Be Held April 26 Detailed plans for a crow hunt April 26 were completed at a meeting of the Mandan Rotary club at the Lewis and Clark hotel Thursday noon. Selection of two groups was made | at the meeting. Harry Nelson was a dinner guest at the* Pillsbury home Friday. Charles Moffit, Jr., also was a guest in hon- or of Teddy Pillsbury’s 10th birthday anniversary. A ice birthday cake was enjoyed by all. Mrs. C. E. Moffit visited with Mr. Moffit at the hospital Monday. -He expects to come home Wednesday.
