John- & son to Speak Preparations are made for a gala day in Carson June 14th for the Fifth Annual Old Settlers Picnic of Grant ‘and Morton counties. There will be plenty of amusement throughout the day for all who at- tend. A place is being provided for every- one, who attends, to register and give the date of their locating in either of the counties. A card with the name, ldress and date of location will be tven those who register. Any resi- dent may register of either Grant or Morton counties regardless of their Jength of residence. - “* The oldest gentleman settler and the newest baby boy that registers at the Kelly Mercantile Store during the day will receive a prize. The man will get any pair of shoes in the store and the baby a jacket or wool sweater. The oldest lady settler and youngest baby girl that registers at Schweigert’s I. G. A. Store in Carson during the day will also receive a premium. The lady will be given five yards of black dress goods and the baby girl an Esmon* blanket. Register at the above places of business for the prizes when you come to town and return at 5 o'clock in the afternoon and the ‘prize will be awarded. The cpeakers for the day are Hon. J. M. Hanley of Mandan, J. T. Nelson of Glen Ullin, Simon Pederson of Leith and J. G. Johnson of Lark. Program For the Day 10 a, m.—Band concert by Carson band. 10:30 a. m.—Speaking in Orpheum. 12:00—Dinner_ hour. 1:30 p. m—Band concert at Ball Park. 1:45—Ball Game, New Salem vs. Carson. 3:45—Half mile horse race; $25 or Pfnore, first; $10, second; and $5, third. 4:45—Foot races of all ages with liberal prizes. Tug of war between farmers of Morton and Grant gounties. . 6:00—Supper hour. '7:00—Band concert. 7:30—Picture show. 9:00—Dance with music by high class orchestra. Wolf Chase Feature Of Rodeo at Yucca A wolf chase will be one of the features of the rodeo which will be staged at Yucca, half way between Mandan and Center, June 7 and 3, it has been announced. Twenty greyhounds and wolf Annual Picnic). hounds will compete in a race, prizes going to the winners. Many rodeo features are planned. The program begins at 2 p. m. Saturday. 'WRS, A, LANTERMAN DEAD IN CALIFORNIA Wife of Mandan Capitalist Lived in North Dakota for 86 Years Mrs. Margaret Lanterman, 78, wife of Albert Lanterman, Mandan capi- talist, died at her home in Los Angeles yesterday, according to word | received in Mandan today. Mrs. Lanterman came to Hillsboro, N. D., as a bride from New Jersey in 1882. In 1884 the family moved to Mandan. and resided there until two years ago, when the Lantermans moved to the Pacific coast. She was active in D. A. R., and | Presbyterian church circles in North Dakota. Left are her husband, and @ son, E. R. Lanterman, of Beverly Hills, Calif. Mrs. E..A. Ripley, wife of the president of the Farmers State bank, Mandan, of which Albert Lanterman was one of the founders, is a niece of Mrs. Lanterman., When founded, the Farmers State bank was known as the State Bank of Morton county. No details of funeral plans are known in Mandan. DeMolay and Rainbow Groups in Mandan Are \Dancing Party Hosts About 50 couples, 30 from Mandan and 20 from Bismarck, attended the program dancing party given in the Mandan Masonic temple last evening by the Wowaste chapter of DeMolay, Mandan, and the Mandan Rainbow girls for the Bismarci: DeMolay and Rainbow organizations. Billy is the son of L. C. Brod- erick, Mandan. RAVNOSIS MANDAN'S BUILDING INSPECTOR Succeeds E. R. Griffin, Re- signed; Building and Gas | Ordinance Passed Sig. P. Ravnos is Mandan'’s new building inspector. Ravnos was appointed by the Man- dan city commissioners in regular) meeting last night after the resigna- tion of E. R. Griffin had been accepted. Mr. Griffin resigned because of dif- | ficulty in arranging his schedule of | work so that he could look after the | building inspection work. Mr. Ravnos also is superintendent of the Mandan waterworks. William Courtemanck, paving ex- | pert of the Haggart Construction company, Fargo, in a short address before the commissioners last eve- ning explained the company’s plan in regard to some resurfacing work to be done. Contracts for the laying of three blocks of alley paving in paving districts 15, 16, and 17 were awarded the Haggart firm last night. An ordinance amending the build- ing laws of Mandan, prohibiting the leaving of building materials on side- walks, streets, or other pcrsons’ prop- erty without special permission from the city commission, was passed. A gas ordinance also was passed. An agreement between the city and the Montana Dakota Power company in regard to the coming gas line was ordered sent to the gas company for signature, according to W. H. Seitz, city auditor. Atrangements for the sale of pav- ing warrants in districts 12 to 17 in- clusive were made. The warrants in each district are to be sold for sums between $1,300 and $1,400. : City Engineer E. R. Griffin's esti- mates on costs for paving in districts 6, 9, 10, 11, 12, 15, 16, and 17 were accepted, as well as monthly reports Dr. R. S. Martineson and| Sheriff Rollin Welch have left for Salina, Kansas, to birng back the three soldiers arrested there on a charge of stealing the automobile of Robert Byrne, secretary of state. The officers went by train and expect to' drive back in the Byrne car. New Ore Deposit Is Discovered in Alaska of here in northern British Columbia. The discovery was made by George Drapich, old time Yukon miner, on the eastern bank of the stream near the village of Glenora. Early arrivals in the district have already staked 32 claims, while a large number of min- ers will leave here on the next boat. One of the veins is about 30 feet wide, reports received here said.
