About twenty-five students of Steele high school, and some of the teachers left Wednesday morning, for Grand Forks to compete in the music meet and May Festival there. E. M. Wiley and his bride returned to Steele Monday morning. The couple will make their home on his farm near Steele. The Kidder county grade pley day took place at Dawson Friday. The transaction is to take effect as soon as Pierce stockholders ratify the con- tract, Injuries Are Fatal To Moorhead Nurse Moorhead, Minn., May 17—(P)— Miss Nellie O'Connor, 49, a nurse at St. Ansgar’s hospital here, died Thursday afternoon, shortly after be- ing struck by a Great Northern train. Miss O'Connor was struck as she started over a track crossing. Appar- ently not seeing or hearing the on- coming train, Miss O’Connor was hit and thrown against a switch head. Child Stranded by Desire for Candy New York, May 17.—(#)—Because of an Iming desire for a piece of candy, 10-year-old John Staunton, of Fox Lake, Ill, near Chicago, was stranded in New York today while his mother was en route to France on the Tle de France. John was already aboard the liner when he decided he just had to have another piece of American candy. Leaving his mother in their stateroc:a he made his way down the gangplank to a candy stand on the pier, He ob- tained his candy, but then in the rush of visitors from the ship he found himself unable to force his way aboard again. Despite his cries the ship pulled out without him. Several hours later a patrolman found him alone and weeping at a street crossing a mile from the pier. He was taken to the shelter of the Soriety for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.
