LACK OF CASH CURB IN DEMAND FOR LAND Many Want North Dakota Farms but Do Not Have the Money for Down Payment If North Dakotans had the money to pay for it there would be no fore- closed land problem at the Bank of North Dakota, according to officials there. The demand for land is keen, ac- cording to the bank’s land depart- ment, but money with which to make the down payment ‘required by the bank is scarce. The bank will not scll land unless the purchaser can pay 80, the amount of land being sold by the bank is increasing. Up to May 14, 1929, the bank had taken over 197,658 acres of land on Mortgage foreclosure. Of this amount 42,785 acres have been sold, either for cash or on contracts and 33,145 acres have been tentatively sold under op- tion agreements. The option agreement plan was de- vised to assist persons with little cash to acquire land. By means of the option a prospective purchaser may pay the bank a small sum and obtain possession of the land. If he is successful in getting a good crop he then can pay the remainder of the 20 per cent down payment required to obtain a contract of sale.
