FRIDAY, FEBRUARY. 16, 1929 WHEAT PRICES SET ~NEW SEASON MARK High-Price Record Established as Result of Commission House Buying Today | Chicago, Feb. 15.—(7}—Broadening out of pressure to sell carried wheat values downward today in the late dealings after all deliveries had sur- passed the season high-price record. At the day's top quotations the wheat market was in some cases as much as 7%c a bushel over prices current last week. One of the reasons ascribed to account for increased sell- ing was that Argentine wheat is undercutting North American wheat in Europe, being 15c below a parity with offerings from Canada. ‘Wheat closed nervous, % to %c to 1%e net lower (March 1.27% to %, May 132 to %, July 134%. to % to %). Corn varying from %c decline to | Eri Yc advance (March 96%, May 90% to 1.00, July 1.02% to %). Oats %c off to a shade up (March 51% to %, May 52% to %, July 5015 to %). And provisions unchanged to a set- back of 60c. Commission house buying of wheat was strongly in evidence at times. On the other hand, selling to realize profits for recent purchasers was also apparent, and was given some stimu- lus through forecasts of better weath- er abroad. Friends of high prices for wheat put considerable stress today on a Washington crop summary which was construed as very bullish as to the Russian situation in particular. The summary stated that the Russian press was giving indications of alarm over the outlook for the growing crops in Russia. Corn was unsettled, easing early but then advancing sharply to a new high on the present movement. However the bulge brought in profit-taking, and a reflection ‘followed. Oats were ¥Vinfluenced mainly by the action of other grain. Provisions acted easicr. WHEAT SLOWS DOWN ‘ AFTER EARLY RISE Minneapolis, Minn., Feb. 15.—(P)— Wheat stowed down today, advanc- ing only % to 5s cent above yester- day's high. Selling was met in’ vol- ume on an early advance, but fresh support came in on setbacks. ‘ Corn futures advanced % cents to 1's cents after an uncertain start. Oats has an easy start and turned fi Rye futures dragged after go- ing a shade-over yesterday's top. May barley was quiet and firm. Profit taking and stop loss selling hit flax futures end a sharp break resulted. Cash wheat offerings were large and met a quiet to fair demand. ) Winter wheat was steady. Durum was quiet and steady. Corn” was in fair’demand and the’ . basis was steady. Oats were steady. Rye was steady with a fair to good demand for milling quality. Barley was quiet. Range was 62 at ‘74 cents.
