Perry read at the meeting of the Wednesday Study club yesterday afternoon at the home of Mrs. N. O. Churchill. Mrs. Perry showed the effect of the reconstruc-; tion period on the industrial life of the people. A review of the November book of the month, “Whither Mankind,” by Charles A. Beard, was given by Mrs. J. K. Blunt. Fortnightly Club Meets at Home of Mrs. F. L. Conklin Papers on “Ocear’a” and “Egypt and the Soudan” by Mrs. S. D. Cook and Mrs. John Burke were on the program of the Fortnightly club yes- terday afternoon when it met with Mrs. F. L. Conklin. Interesting descziptions of the peo- ple of Oceania and of the North Afri- can countries, their modes of living and products, were given by Mrs. Cook and Mrs. Burke. The essay contest which the club is sponsoring is concluded and the essay have been sent to the judges. The essay contest for high school students, on “Why I Should Vote” being sponsored by the club, is con- cluded and awards will be made as soon as the judges finish judging the papers. Viking Whist Club Meets at Lund Home Mrs. E. A. Lund was hostess to the Viking whist club last evening. Christmas decorations were used in the rooms and for the table appoint- ments. During the evening whist was played at two tables, high scores being won by Mrs. M. O. Agre. Mrs. Matt Pillen and Margaret Yegen. A course Juncheon was served at the close of the games. oe 8 Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Arnot and Mrs. Arnot’s sister, Mrs. C. W. Howe, Wil- ton, have returned from LeRoy, Minn. Where they were summoned by the illnes and death of Mrs. Arnot’s father, Charles B. Brown. They @ere accompanied home by Mrs. Brown, who will spend the winter here and at Wilton with her daughters. ‘ee Mrs. A. E. Brink left yesterday for St. Paul, to be with her father J. Mc- Donald, who is seriously ill at a hos- pital there. She will be joined later in the week by Mr. Brink, and they will remain in the cities until after Christmas. see Miss Ruth Rawlings, who has been spending several months visiting rel- atives on the Pacific coast, has ar= rived from Hollywood, Calif., to spend the holiday season with her parents, Dr. and Mrs. G. A. Rawlings. eee Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Hannaford hate arrived in Bismarck and are making their home at 404 Fourth street. Mrs. Hannaford was formerly Mrs. Ella Williams.
