The interior of the Farmers State Bank was Ladly damaged by fire early Wednesday morning. Had it not been for the heroic efforts of the local business men the bank and its contents would have all, been de- stroyed., As it was'the loss was ¢on- fined to the inside fixtures and some books and papers belonging to the bank. All moneys, valuable papers, etc,, were'in the vault and were not damaged. Business of the bank con- inued as us end repair work on the building begin at once. The fire was put out by the use of chemical fire extinguishers. Thanksgiving Day was observed in Baldwin in the usual manner. There Were church services in the Lutheran church, and a number ‘planned on serving family ‘dinners. Turkeys were reserved for that.special occa- sion, and everything went happily on Thanksgiving Day. Local young people who are attending or teach- ing school were expected home for the festive occasion. * Fred Kent, who has been residing on the old Hooper farm, has pur- chased a quarter section of farm land from the local bank. This farm was formerly occupied by the Christ Satter family, and has been unoccupied sinee the death of Mrs. Satter last spring. Mr. Kent and family will take possession of their new home next spring, and will stay where they are cver the winter on account of school. _ A social party and dance was held in the Rupp hall Saturday night by the local membership of the Farm- ers’ Union. A genuine old-time dance Was enjoyed with music being fur- nished by local talent. The lady members of the organization served midnight lunch. Schoolhouse Burns— About 2 o’clock monday morning the Canfield consolidated schoolhouse burned completely to the ground. ‘The cause of the fir: is unknown, but is thought to have started in the furnace room.
