WHEAT PRICES TREND LOWER ! Beneficial Argentine Rains H 4 Ease Market; Corn Shows ; Firmness CRicago, Nov. 28,—()—Pre-holi- fay “curtailment of speculative ac- a | counts helped to steady the wheat i it market today, but rains where need- q ed_in Argentina caused values to i ext down at times. Meanwhile gen- a eral export demand for wheat from North America was slack, but Winni- pee. said Europe continued to be a © heavy buyer of Canadian low-grade 4 i wheat. Although moist conditions { i throughout the greater part of the orn belt led to considerable buying | of corn future deliveries, protit-tak- ing sales on the part of holders acted | largely as an offset. H Wheat closed easy, ‘4c to %c net lower (December 1.15% to 1.15%, March 1.20% to 1.20%, May 1.227 to 1.28)), Corn closed Yac to Sc up (Decem- ber 84% to 85, March 87%, May 20% to 90%). ed Oats closed tac to %2c advance } » (December 47 to 47%, March 47% to, 4714, May 48). Provisions closed varying from 5c Setback to a rise of 17c. News that beneficial downpours had taken place in southern Argen- tina where the crops have been suf- fering on account of excessive heat i and urgent need of rain was more or less offset today in the wheat market here by comprehensive ad- ii vices that there is much less wheat in United States country elevators than at this time last year. It was indicated | that the movement to ete? centers has been 20,000,000 ushels ahead of last year, and that Faia ie ~-i most of this come from winter wheat section: where there was an increase in producticn over 1927. Prices for all grades of domestic wheat in practically all markets it was shown, are lower than at this time last year. In this connection, theyassertion was :nade that farm- ers generally are in better financial | j } condition than they were then and that the “hold your wheat,” move- ] ment ddvocated by Secreta:y Jar- dine is likely to keep the grain on ips until prices improve or money if need for spring work. Country offerings of corn to ar- rive were small, and in particular relatively little corn was offered southwest. Oats followed corn. } Provisions were firmer. \ \ ( ‘ WHEAT SLOW, EASY AGAIN Minneapolis, Nov. 28.—(AP)— Wheat was slow and easy today, but prices continued to show resistance to bearish news and price losses up to the last hour were small. i‘ Oats were slow and steady to firm, receipts continued light. Barley fu- tyes were quiet and easy under hedging and scattered selling. Rye futures were dull and firm. Flaxseed was off on scattered December liqui- dation, a quieter cash demand and Argentine ease. Cash wheat offerings were small- er than indicated by posted receipts. Demand was fair to good for the better class ef spring wheat and the premium basis was unchanged. Winter wheat offerings were small and demand was fair to good. Durum turned weak near the close yesterday and was soft early today. Medium to poor milling quality ruled 4 to 5 cents lower, choice rather a scarce and not s0 weak, A Corn offerings continued ample ' # but demand was fair to good for 4 beter grades and basis was about ig] steady at yesterday's light decline. if Oats were light supply and de- mand was fair to good, except for i poor quality. a ,Rye was quiet except for choice filling which sold readily. Barley was steady at 52 at 68 8 cents, 4 Flax seed offerings were light but Duluth was out of the market for q diversion point cars and local de- h mand was list!
