The thistle has been one of the chief agencies in reducing wheat yields and awakening the northwest to the need of diversi- fied farming. The value of sheep as a foe of the weed was revealed by a series of farm tours through the Red River valley, in which scores of farmers joined to study eradication processes. Other livestock also aid in con- trol of the thistle menace. Crop ro- tation is a close second as a means of combating it.
