On account of the heavy rain the first of the week many farmers have started breaking again. Robert Welch, Oliver Welch, Lawrence Dop- pler, Chester Boyd, and Paul Hapel are some of the neighbors who started farming again. Doppler motored to Bismarck Wednesday to meet his mother and sister, Mrs. Marcus Doppler and Mrs. Herman Bartz, of Seattle, Wash. Mrs. Doppler is quite aged, being 86 years old, but stood the trip very well. She will now make her home with her son. Mrs. Bartz had not been east for about 20 years and had not seen her brother for 14 ars. The relatives gathered at ir. Doppler’s for Sunday dinner. Mrs. Bartz will start on her journey home Friday evening. Coyotes have been causing a good deal of destruction in this vicinity apie lately. Mrs. Dorman and irs. Doppler have both reported los- ing poultry. Robert Welch saw two coyotes near his brother John’s pee while returning from Bismarck ‘ednesday evening. The Presbyterian Missionary So- ciety met at Mrs. John Welch’s Thursday affernoon. Quite a num- ber of Menoken were present. Mrs. Robert Welch and children visited at Mrs. Doppler’s Thursday evening. ° Oliver Welch had a good deal of trouble with his plows when start- ing to break this week. He had to make several trips to town for re- pairs and to have some mechanics out to ri him. Mrs. Ed. Doppler has been on the sick list this week, having contracted @ very severe cold while chasing her baby chicks out of the rain. Pastures and crops of every variety have changed from a pale puny color to a dark green which insures a much greater harvest for this part of the state than was previously expected. The rodeo held near Menoken Sun- day was quite largely attended. The bronko busting together with the many other features of the . day were greatly enjoyed by all. The clowns acted their part with rare skill, The many motorists who were prseent from near and distant sections viewed the performances with keen interest and expressed amazement at the ability of some of the farmer boys who took part. Lem Ferguson, local road con- tractor, who was recently awarded a big road job in Telfes township, is progressing rapidly with the work and expects to have the job com- pleted in a short time. Mr. Fergu- son will then move with his family and equipment to Steel, N. D., where the state is doing much highway work. He expects to be absent from this locality for many months. R. Stewart, prominent farmer of this vicinity, after viewing several fields of various grains in this neigh- borhood, reports conditions as being favorable for a fair crop of all grains including corn and potatoes. Alex Maclean and son, Vernon, are busy breaking for flax on their farm in Telfer township, The tune of their tractor can be heard from early morning until a late hour. Jean Smith and family and A. V. The many tractors of this district, which had ceased their song during the dry spell, can now be heard from all angles with greater har- mony and melody in their tone.
