PAGE EIGHT Decks Cleared For Final Agreement on Rail Consolidation New York, April 27.—(AP)—Sur- rendering his holdings in the Wa- bash and Lehigh Valley railroads, Leonor F. Loree has cleared the decks for a final agreement on east- earn railway consolidation involving ; 50,000 miles of track and property worth billions of dollars. Loree yesterday relinquished his dream of a fifth trunk line between the east and west and sold his stock in the Wabash and Lehigh to the Pennsylvania railrozd for $63,000,- 000. The deal was closed after weeks of bargaining by Loree, W. W. At- terbury, head of the Pennsylvania, and other railroad interests. The amount of Loree’s holdings was not disclosed, The sale was for cash and free of all incumbrances It leaves Loree a free hand in the disposition of the Delaware & Hudson, of which he is president, and which he may keep or throw into any merger he sees fit. Consummation of the deal fol- lowed closely upon the disclosure that Otto H. Kahn, banker, had in- tervened in a deadlack which threat- ened when Loree refused to give up his fifth trunk line scheme. Legion Posts Urged to Sponsor Junior Ball Aggregations Fargo, N. D., April 27.—@)—Co- operation of every American Legion post in the state is necessary if junior baseball champions of North Dakota, selected in competitions to be sponsored by the American Legion, are to have an opportunity to participate in the national tourn- ament, according to Bert Weston, athletic officer for the North Da- kota department. Unless 52 teams take part in the contests which determine the North Dakota champion, Weston explained this state's entry will not be eligible to attend the national tour- ament and contest with other state winners for the championship. Wes- ton has issued an appeal to the Legion posts of the state which have not already done so, to organ- ize one or more teams at once so as to increase the number partic- ipating. In some cities, he said, plans have been formed to organ- the ground that the indebtedness al- readv had been paid and won its case in the district court. Verret appealed to the supreme court. Wilkins Is Awarded Patrons Royal Medal London, April 27.—(AP)—King George has approved award of the Patrons Royal Medal of the Royal Geographical Society for this year to Captain George H. Wilkins, Aus- tralian flyer, for his many years of systematic work in the polar regions, culminating in his recent brilliant flight from Point Barrow, Alaska, to Spitzbergen. 19 INSURGENTS KILLED Mexico City, April 27.—(®)—Dis- patches from Irapuato today said 19 insurgents, including their Com- mander Felipe Suarez, were slain in battle with federal troops at Las Guajolotas. Lignite Shipments Increase in 1927 Cold weather coupled with in- ‘creased knowledge of the proper method of burning lignite coal and high prices for coal other than lig- nite, resulted in increased shipments of lignite in 1927 as compared with previous years, according tc infor- mation compiled at the state rail- toad board offices here. Figures taken from reports by the railroads to the interstate com- merce commission and the state rail- road board cover only those ship- ments made for commercial pur- poses and do not include lignite shipped for use by railroads or: lig- nite consumed near the mines.
