E| The oats crop.is disappointing, es- i ppegially in Minnesota, 2 Ps) a 18 In this state spots in South Dakota, there jhas been an unusually heavy infec- | tion of red rust that developed very rapidly as the cron was maturing. The result has beén a reduction in central and western Minnesota of from 25 to 50 per cent. Most oats bree in Minnesota were of very light, weight. In South Dakota, some oats’ will be of good quality but| others Will be light and the yield small, There is red rust also in North Dakota in the oats. Most of our reports show a better condition at present than in the other states, but some fields have just started to head and the outcome is uncertain. We look for a very uneven crop. Barley is very good generally. In southern districts the major portion of early barley has been harvested with satisfactory quality and yields. The condition of the flax through- out the northwest is nromising. Lute sown has shown good development recently, and most of the early flax is in the ball. Apparently there has not been any rapid spread of red rust. This condit exists only in occasional fields. out frosta up to September the: flax crop should prove most satisfactory. Corn also has made good growth recently. A number of our reports state>that some corn will no doubt mature, where up to two weeks ago it was not believed probable.
