When he was in the act of arresting Charles Butler for having consumed not wisely but too well, Butler’s partner arrived on the scene and mixed in the discus- sion. Chief Romer took the scar that. tim He thnks it was made by the ngernail of George Kuth, Butler's partner. He also took the two young men to jail. That was on the Fourth of July. Yesterday Charles Butler paid a $10 fine for being drunk and Kuth paid $25 for the luxury of having attempted to rescue a prisoner from the hands of the chief of police. If the case had been brought under the state law instead of the city ordin- ance, they would have gotten worse and more of it. State’s Attorney Kelsh pointed that fact out to them Tuesday afternoon and both promised to be more careful.
