Peking, Dec. 26.—China’s capital is |now guarded by many soldiers who are credited either with reading the Bible or hearing lessons from it, General Feng Yu-Hsing, known as the christian general, who with- his troops recently moved from Honan province to take over the guarding of Peking, announces that about twenty per cent of his soldiers have professed christianity. As Gerleral Feng has about 30,000 men in his command, it is estimated 6,000 of them are somewhat familiar with the Bible. The general asserts he is an ar- dent christian and as such feels it * his duty to acquaint his followers regarding the Scriptures. During the fighting with Chang Tso-Lin last spring, General Fang, as_a support-» er of Wu Pei Fu, ordered his men to show no quarter to the enemy und he quoted the Bible to justify his stand. Shortly after General Feng left Honan a few weeks ago the bandits became active in kidnapping missionaries. : Ri —_—________.. | THE WEATHE OO For twenty-four hours ending noon today: Temperature at 7 a. m.
