They can ‘overcome the handicap of sx which trad‘tion has given them and still not sacrifice any! of the exalted traits of womanhood. But this Isteat of Freterict nictnesg is far from being an argument for the emancipation oL women. ine women, God bless ’em, are already emanci- pated. “Two Kinds of Women” is a swiftly moving drama that makes one want, to seek: surcease from tie noise and bustle of the city in the beauty and grandeur of the California Sierras, |. where much of the nicture was filme’. April 14.— A free public library is to be taken to the home of every farmer in Wayne coun- ty, Detroit, if the county library com- ‘mission decides to adopt a plan now under consideration. This plan pro- vides for a library aboard a miotor truck that each fortnight will call at every rural home in the country, leave books desired by the farmers and their families, and collect works left on the previous trip. ‘The service would be free to the farmers, just as use of L‘braries is furnish2d without cost to city dwell- ers, The plan was adopted in Mary- land some time ago and Michigan is the first stmte to follow the lead of the eastern state in considering the matter. Members of the Jibrary, board ex- pressed the opinion that the plan j Would be carried out and that the sys- jtem would be in operation within a few weeks. It is proposed that books on fiction and every subject that, might interest the rural population of this part of jthe country be carried won the library truck. The same card system used in pub- Ne libraries generally would be used in loaning books to the rural public. Kitchen Reviews Recent Farmers Institute Work Commissioner of Agriculture and Labor Kitchen made public today a statement of the progress, at¥endance and the general interest in the Farm- ers Institutes of the State. “Diversified farming was the key- note of interest on the part of the farmers. The speakers gave particu- lar attention to dairying, poultry, livestock diseases, potatoes, sweet clover, farm accounts, corn and silos. Much interest was shown in all parts of the state in all kinds of livestock and the problems of feeds and feed-, ing. The subjects of clothing; gardens and household economics held a high place in the discussions. THE HOPE ‘OF THE WORLD, The war of 1914 laid half the nations of the world in the dust. An official of the Bu, reau of Entomology advised the Bur reau of Standards today that he had invented a device which will operate on the principles of the turnstile and that it will register the arrival home and departure of every bee that en- ters the hive on honey-making er- rands. The apparatus consists, it was explained, of a gate to be placed at the entrance to a beehive with a ser- ies of telaphone message registers at- tached in such a way as to register such time a bee hops, skips or jumps on or over thé contrivance which was said to be operated electrically by al- ternating current. The inventor explained that about three: hundred thousand bees go out during the day, on honeygathering ex- pediticns, and that while considerable electrical energy was needed to op-"| erate the recording gate on the aver- | age hive, the amount of energy ex- ipended by the device exch time a bee passed was infinitesimal.
