G. ‘Leonard, of the Uniyersity of North Dakota, state geologist. The state highway commission, in mecting yesterday afternoon, decided to renew an appropriation of $1,000 for investigation by \the geologist of gravel deposits in the state for use in road work, but added that the investi- gation should include the use of scoria, Scoria abounds in the western part of the state. It is, according to J. A. Kitchen, who urged the investigation into the use of scoria, clay which has been baked by lignite burning under it.
