CLUB MEET RVENTS PROVE BIG SUCCESS Banquet and Benefit Concert Are ‘Enjoyed by Large Crowd of Delegates The pretty dining room of the Lewis and Clark hotel formed a nice back- ground for. the delicately appointed ta* bles and profusion of lovely- blossoms at the banquet of the 7th District of Women’s Federated clubs Wednesday evening. © Covers were laid for 123 persons and a group of young ladies under the leadership of Miss Jean Stutsman supplemented .the regular force ‘in serving. ~The federation colors, Nile green and white were used. with charming effect both in menu and decorations and the Mandan orchestra furnished music suitable to the occasion. Mrs. Robert’ Wilson of the Great Plains station proved a well, polsed and most interesting toastn&stress, and toasts were ably responded@)to by, the following women: ¢“Leaners and Lifters,” by Mrs. Spire of Bowman; “Keeping Up With Our Daughters,’ Mrs, Erlandsen of Hettinger; “Who's the Best Two for a Club Women’s Husband,” Mrs. Hart of Carson; “Come Out of the Kitchen,” Mrs, O'Neill of Hettinger. The lovely gowns, ‘lively music and clever toasts all combined to form a very pleasing atmosphere of club wo- manhood. In the course of her re- marks during the evening, Mrs. Wilson quoted a saying of William Allen White to the effect that Americans were wonderful men to organize and that if three men were to fall out of a balloon, they would elect a presi- den, secretary and treasurer on the way down and land as an executive committee. There is-no doubt but that women are just as efficient or- ganizers, as the success of the vari- ous club functions prove, Especial ! credit is due the various committees who were in charge. A finely representative audience greeted the Mandan Musical clab in their maiden program since their re- organization, last evening at the Pres- byterian. church. The three chorus numbers, Strauss’ “Greeting to Spring,” “Where My Car- avan Has Rested,” by Lohr, and “The Heavens Are Telling,” of Hadyn, with piano and pipe organ accompani- ment were beautifully rendered ‘by the chorus, of sixty. well trained , voices under the direction of F. G, Gale,'and were most enthusiastically applauded. Piano numbers: by Miss Helen Stab- ler and a pipe organ prelude and se- lection by, E. ‘H, Tostevin’ were ‘en- cored very heartily, a group of solos from “Elijah,” by Misses *Celia and Florence.Connolly were wonderfully done and Rev, ‘High Owen interpreted the, story of\the oratorio in a most sincere and “impressive manner. “Spirit Flower” sung by. Miss Audrey Miller, and © “Invictus,” by Scott Conyne brought forth delighted en- cores, as did 3 Chopin selection on tie piano by Mrs, Ward of Dickinson, Mrs. John ‘Lish; of ‘Dickinson, who! was in splendid voice, acceptably fill- ed two places.on.the program and was forced to respond: to repeated encores | as was Mrs. A. P. Nachtway (also ot} that_city,, who charmed her audience! with a group of ‘Irish songs, done in her, own inimitable way. The audience awarded/@ round of| applause. to. Mrs. B. G. Wheeler, our| “dean” of music and to Mrs. C. C. Me- Lean, the club president. Much de-| served credit is given to Mrs) E. k.
