Feb, 11—The death toll in yesterday's .ornado which swept through the Gardner settlement near here.remaines today. at about thirty. ‘Many of the dead have been Ints and scores of the injured were in hospitals. The list of fatalities included only two whites, a number of the injured, chiefly ne- grees, were expected to die. Relief has been sent from Atlanta and nearby towns, and the injured end homeless were being cared for by the Red Cross and’ civic organizations, In some cases entire families were wiped out. The region visited by the tornado was completely devastated. It is an area nearly five miles long and half mile wide. . The chief property damage occur- red at the plant of the Cleveland- Qconee Lumber company, where most of the storm victims were empldyed.
