PAGETEN ~ Gain eWay BISMARCK DAILY TRIBUNE FRIDAY, SEPT. 17, 1920 After the strenuous summer days, how gratefully one comes back to prepare for the more restful fall and winter season. One’s first thought is of the new wardrobe, and first to be considered for that are the new chapeaus necessary for daytime and evening wear. It is never too early to plan one’s hats for the season. It is a subject to be thought of long and seriously, for is it not true that a woman’s hat can make or mar her costume, as it will? A hat, should look as if it had been placed on a head by the hand of Fate, and not as if it had been blown hither and thither, alighting on just the wrong head. Fascinating, indeed, is the prospect of choosing one or more hats from the enticing, though bewildering ar- ray in the hat shop this fall. There are those delightful soft little hand- made affairs of gaily colored du- vetyn, or velour for early fall sports wear, and for-walking and driving the. silk fabric hats, and. later the hatte?’s plush seem to be greatly favored. While for evening wear, there is the large picture hat of the finest velvet or one of those airy transparent bits of lace and tulle worn so much by the ingenue typep. Never before has one’s choice scemet so unlimited as it is this fall. Even the most fastidious will have. no trouble in finding among the innu- merable artistically made hats, the. one. designed to suit her individual type. To brighten the duller moments of an autumn day, there are the smart little duvetyn and velour hats worn for almost any occasion, very gay in. More and more attention. is being given’ to the furnishing and decoratidn of the kitchen as it becomes more and more difficult to procure servants, and more and more necessary for the housekeeper to spend part of her time in that room, preparing her meals for the family. Women have come to realize that even the Nomliest tasks can be brightened it completed in attractive settings. iN The result is that the kitchen is rapidly becoming one of the most interesting rooms of the house from a decorator’s point of view, and many and varied are the artistic schemes for making this room attractive to look upon as well as convenient for the one who performs the culinary tasks. The range and the kitchen cabinets are now part of the decorative scheme. The modern housewife no longer faces a homely iron stove that has to be blacked frequently to keep it from rusting. Is there anything more that one covets and craves much more than stunning furs and fur wraps, when the “cold winds do blow?” For ‘warmth, yes, for furs are not only decorative, but how di. vinely satisfying they are to wear and have for one’s own, It would seem that never could here be a more extravagant fur sea- son than was the one last year, yet here is every promise that this win- ‘er will compete very favorably if it does not exceed that of last year. It was even difficult then to supply the unusual demand for fur wraps of*all kinds, which obtained far greater than ever before. Even antly high in price, they are always sensible investment, for good furs will last for a lifetime and even then may be handed. down to the progeny. They may always be made over to uit the changing mode, and are as practical as any part of one’s ap- parel. A touch of fur is like a bit of lace, it makes the costume complete and adds that artful, chic/ finish, we find-so very_enticing. In the fall ,before it is time to wear one’s long fur wrap, the fur trimmed wraps and suits are the thing. Deep bands of the finer furs, moleskin, ko- linsky, and sable are used extensively for such trimming. Soft duvetyn and velour wraps are extravagantly and fantastically trimmed with all of the various furs from Avwstralian oppos- sable and Alaska seal. But in the early fall for the smart taileur and frock for the street, one must have that individual touch, given by a’ small fur for the neck. A feeling of assurance surrounds this bit of stone marten, fisher or sable. These bits of fur are made up of either a single skin or of two or more skins, and are a fascinating detail of milady’s costume. g There is nothing strikingly differ- ent in the fur wrap silhouette this season. The American woman cares very little for the extreme fitted fur garment and finds greatest comfort in either the draped dolman effects or the flaring skirted coats: Capes are also looked .upon with the usual favor. What a joy to slip a soft, glossy creation of Russian sable over the shoulders of one’s street or afternoon frock. In such a marvelous wrap whole skins have been rolled and then woven basket fashion to make the cape and except for the weaving are held together at the. outer edges. A coat with deep collar and flaring skirt is made of the very finest East- ern mink,°the skins of which are most skillfully matched. Over the soft lin- ing of dull rose, Ku-Koon, there is a second lining of dark brown chiffon, making the inside of the wrap as ex- \ , duisitely lovely as the outside. | 1 som to the rarer and most costly mink”
