L. Young, newly elect- “ed president of the club. The budget is $10,000 and the new and directors hope to sub- e this amount within record time. | They point to the achievement of the club in the last year, and the import- ant problems: with which the club must deal during the coming year to emphasize the necessity of carrying on the work. Much of the work done by the club is of a nature that cannot be given publicity, dealing with conferences in the interest of the city of confidential nature. Many things have been ac- complished by the club without the public becoming general aware of them. Saves City Money One of the methods by which it is. believed that the club has saved the citizens of the city several thousands of dollars annually is in the dealing { with solicitors and others who wish to carry on their activities in the city. Local established and worthy charities have been protected by refusing pet- mission to mersons to solicit funds up- jon pretended charitable reasons. | The tariff department of the club, j through which rate cases are handled and adjustments of rates made for Bismark business men-is another way in which the club has benefitted the city generally. _ The activity of the club includes the location of industries in Bismarck, employment service, promotion of the National Parks highway, and acting as a clearing house for all civic prob- lems and numerous other tasks. Second Convention City Bismarck has risen to be the sec- ond convention, city in the state thrv the Commercial club. Sixty-seven conventions were held here last year, which brought 10,000 visitors to the icity. The club aided in the enter- tainment so that the ‘visitors receiv- ed the best possible imrpession of the city. One of the most beneficial acts of {the club was last October when the condition of drought was threatening the western part of the state, The board made formal application to rail- road companies for half rates on feed fand the railroads promptly complied j with the reques During the last cent of the city’s bu: members of/the club. muke the record perf ELIHU ROOT’S RESOLUTION ; ENDS FIGHT WHICH HAD THREATENED PARTY SPLIT Hl (Continued from Page One) jand pledged the republican party to arninety per ‘houses were is hoped to this year.
