. BISMARCK DAILY TRIBUNE WEDNESDAY, MAY 26, = : SUNDAY is Memorial day, the day on which all persons should pause and give thought to those souls that died for their country. During the other 364 days of the yearithe American people are prone te forget the sacrifices made by the country’s dead heroes and it is:well that at least one day is set apart for fitting remembrances of those who laid down their lives. Memorial day this year should be of especial sig- nificance. . The ever thinning ranks of: Civil war veterans have become mere handfuls of aged men, but within their Hears burn the fires of patriotism as steadily and as brightly as‘ever. It is fitting that the newer and younger veterans, the heroes of the war with Germany, should take up the.task of keep- ing bright the flame of patriotism. The members of the American Legion are the rightful successors of the members of the , Grand Army of the-Republic... It is their duty to now fit- tingly remember those who diéd in the. country’s service. And with the legionaires, all people should join in properly observing and remembering the su- - preme sacrifices of those who have gone to the great beyond. North Dakota can be proud of the part her sons played in‘ the recent war. For this reason; Memorial - day should be one of the proudest days to the inhab- itants of this state. And.of the 30,000 men:who went from North Dakota to down the kaiser’s hordes, many never returned. It is these especially . that should be remembered on Memorial day. And there are those now resting in cemeteries in. this _ state who died after leaving the service from wounds, sickness and disease contracted on the bat- tlefields of France. They‘are just as great heroes as those who died on Flanders fields; TATA MMOKREMMNNAHTKNNINTANIONMNMNNNNHHNNNNHANMANNHNNNHNNA NM BU Quuuayuvnceccgcyeuuasuuneaceeygovcenaacnevecggecncercecruca cocceasavncevecagceeasuostecececuaguoutteeseecuesiaany I DID IT!
