Established 1879 SECURED The Budget System Many families have found that financing a home is just as much a business, And they have problem as financing a met the home problem the same way the business man meets his. They have adopted a budget system. A certain percentage of the family income goes for rent, another share for food, another for amusements, One of the most important items in the whole affair is the percentage that goes to the savings account. ; Of course the whole sum is deposited on a checking account which gives an absolute check on the percentages spent for each department, Come in and talk this of this bank. over with some officer THE BISMARCK BANK Bismarck North Dakota ) cently his activities have peen so pro- ucunced that the Mongolians have beg- ged the Japanese to send troops to protect them. None of the allied of- ficials will say directly who is backing Seminoff, but the Japanese might find it congenial to have a ruler in Mon- gelia who is tied to them by many bonds of obligations. PEGGY HULL MEETS MONGOL CHIEF, I was on a train with a military par ty when Seminoff called on a British of- pr of high rank, He was a fierce ap- rearing and had a dynamic personality that electrified the whole car, He was affable, suave and a genial host. Food and wine, and by wine I mean the st of champagnes, were served in Seminoff talked regretfully of Kol- chak’s misunderstanding and declared emphatically he was not a traitor, He denied Kolchak's right to put himself up as the head of the government and then demote where and when he pleased, the officers who had been fighting the Bolsheviks, The men on his staff compared him to Napoleon, They waxed so enthusi- astic on the subject that they declared he alone could save Russian empire from suicide. Robespierre, Marat and other people prominent in the French revolution ran through their conversa- tion, They were visualizing themselves in relative position with their own revolution, Like warriors of old who fought their battles well, Seminoff has created his own code and publicly acknowledg- ed his one great weakness—her name Josephine. She is such a gorgeous creature that it is quite simple to un- derstand how anybody could be weak about her. Half gypsy and half Jew- ish — acombination that has given her wild, untrammeled emotions and a beauty so flagrant that any saoving picture director in the United States wouldn’t hesitate a second to let her name her price on sight. JOSEPHINE IS STARTLINGLY BEAUTIFUL. Josephine is known from one end of Siberia to the other. Every allied of- leer heard of her hefore he really knew why he was in Siberia. For Sem- inoff is a wily lover as well as a sol- @ier. Josephine never wanders far om the armored train or the immed- inte neighborhood of the Cossack chief. She is quite too startlingly beautiful -—and I might say—too human as some of her escapades have proven—to be left to her own dev! so she travels whenevr there is prospect of a battle and no one, government or people, ap- pear to mind, She has 15 servants and a rope of pearls that made an awful dent in the rouble output. While the American people, under similar circumstances might rise up and demand the source of the princely income which permitted the military chief to indulge in such enormous ex: penditures, the Siberians, having pr . iously risen for some other reason,|B. From all parts of the country comes the insistent demand for places to live. People want homes, they: need homes, they are clamoring for homes! Why don’t you, who live in rented houses, build homes for yourselves? ..And you, who have money to invest, why don’t you build houses and Rents are higher today than ever before in the history of the nation. If you are a renter you want to escape this abnormal condition. If you are a landlord you should take advantage of these opportunities and secure more houses to rent. In either case the answer is—BUILD! Authorities concede that building costs are about Ten to Fifteen Percent above normal just now. As against, this, rents are from Twenty-five to Fifty Percent above normal. Therefore the percentage balance is enormously in favor of Furthermore, authorities are agreed that building costs cannot be lower ‘until some future time as yet unforeseen. You, who are now living in rented houses, pay out in rent each month practically as much money as would build you a home and pay for it entirely! You are only losing by waiting! If you would build now, instead of continuing in the rent payers’ rut, you would for overseas with the 41st/or Sunset division, and upon arriving across were separated, Colonel] Fraine being assigned to the 7th army corps and Major Sprague being assigned to the 1st army corps and later being trans- ferred to the 7th army corps, Active Service. Major Sprague stated that the one ambition of his men was to “get it over’ and that was the one idea until the armistice was signed, and then the main topic with the men was “when do we go home?” On arriving overseas most of the J.
