[DOINGS OF THE DUFFS KINTYRE NEWS, The Ladies’ Aid of the Finnish Luthern church held, a basket sociat at this church south of town on Dec- oration day at which they raised $50.31. Young of Bismarck gave a fine patriotic address whicn took well with the crowd which over- flowed the hall. After Mr. Young’s address the home guard lined up on the street with the school children ‘behind them, then the crowd marched to the cemetery where the one sol- dier’s grave, L. H. At one o’clock a parade, in which the Richardton and Hebron bands, the Richardton and Golden Valled and Hebron home guards, the Hebron ca- det cofps, the Red Cross officers, the service.flag was borne by school girls and relatives of the Hebron boys-in service took part, left the hall and proceeded thru the main streets to the school grounds. On the way the pro- cession stopped to receive and escort the speakers of the day, Governor Lynn J.’Frazier and Chief Jéstice A. A. Bruce to the grounds. The program consisted of songs by the community chorus, prayer by Rev. L. Ebberts, music by the Richardton and Hebron bands, speeches by Gov- ernor Frazier apd Justice Bruce, the reading of, Lincoln's Gettysburg ad- dress by Laird Theirigg and a solo by Mrs.-Ed Carlton. The new service flag was unfurled and each star named by -Dr. A. F. E. Schierbaum. After the solo, the audience filed by the flag saluting it and putting into it a freewill offering to the local Red Cross which amounted to $474. The pro- gram closed with the singing of “The ‘Star Spangled: Banner,” after which the Golden Valldy and iRichardton home guards gave exhibition drills. During the day the \ladies of the local Red Cross served lunch in tho old hardware store building. During the late afternoon an auction was held also at which two horses, ‘a colt, some chickens, and some pigs were sold for the benefit of the Red Cross. Sunday forenoon in. the St. John’s Evangelical church occurred the fun- eral of John Neidhart, pioneer resident of this vicinity, who died’Friday, May 31, at the age of eighty-six. The de- ceased leaves three sons and two daughters as well as a host.of friends to mourn his loss. The grade rooms of the local schools closed for a three-months’. vacation Friday last.
