Opsahl in his own behalf. Amount paid for series, $6.00.) To the Voters and Taxpayers of Bel- trami County of the Sixty-second gislative District: If consistent with your politics, I respectfully ask for your vote and active support as house member at the primaries, June 19. The bulk of my--property’ is in Beltrami county. The county is blessed by nature— about one and a quarter million acres of farm land now served by good roads and schools. Therefore, my land and business policy, whether at St. Paul as your representative, or at_home, will be to work for co-operation to bring in- to Beltrami county under a ten-year farm developmént program five thou- sand new farmers to occupy the idle acres along our 2,400 miles of pub- lic roads (not less than 500 per year) and build up a rivalry between com- munities as to which could attract the most and best new farmers, and through hearty co-operative work and efforts between farmers, bank- ers and law-makers, work to induce people with loanable funds to send at least $10,000,000 into Beltrami coun- ty during such a 10-year period on live and let live teyms as new work- ing capital for old and new farmers. Not less than $1,000,000 per year is needed—about one-quarter million each for (a) new buildings, (b clear- ing new lands, () more livestock, (d) more farm implements. Let us try to build up our tax-pay- ing ability and reduce tax rates by practical warfare on idle acres along our well developed roads. Also to work to make Bemidji (like F'argo) the farm implement distributing cen- ter for manufacturers, for at least 30,000 farms in Bemidji djstrict, and distributing headquarters .also. for our countics, One billion, eight hun- dred million tong of fuel peat and its chemical by-produets, same should be developed under’ systematic state and federal experiment stations and during such experimental stage own- ers can make a sure succes on peat lands by raising clover, winter rye, and hogs to tramp down the moss and cat the clover and rye.
