This statement is made necessary by the fact that reports are being received by A. G. Ruggles, state en- tomologist and nursery inspector, University Farm, St. Paul, to the ef- fect ‘that. agents are ‘at work in the northweet selling white pine nurdery stock, which, they say, was grown ‘| |by the state of Minnesota and is be- ing sold by them for the state. It ie reported, moreover, that these sdme agents, in order to stimulate buying, tell prospective customers that the Minnesota state nursery in- spector advises the fall-planting of white pine. 1f the information re- ceived by-Mr. Ruggles is correct, prospective purchasers of white pine nursery stock should be on their guard. < The facts are tiese: Before the war, at the forestry experiment sta- tion at Cloquet, a _considerable amount of nursery stock was grown tor the state forester. Before this could be planted, the war intervened and the forester found himself with nerhaps €00,000 young trees on hand. Not being able to make use of these he offered them for sale. Louis is feeling the inftuence of and receiving benefit from a’seriesof 50 club fairs.held at ‘widely divergent points. Many fairs and achievement day exercises haye been held by.boy and girl club mem- bers in Minnesota, but never on such a large scale as witnessed this fall in St. Louis county. There are 125 active junior clubs in St. Louis coun- ty. The series of 50 fairs runs about a month, with the county club leader, assisted by teachers and school offi- cers, in charge.
