PAGE SIX - FORCES ARE HOLDING CONVENTION TODAY " Johnson Seems Choice for Pres- ident; West Considered « for Governor (By United Press) St. Paul, March 24.—Forces of the National Non-Partisan league of Minnesota were fathered here today to finally plan the campaign which they: announced a year ago they “would capture Minesota in 1920.” Tlie league convention was called for the purpose of putting a nonpar- tisan ticket in the field for the state primary to be held June 21. The Jeague will operate as a distinct po- ¥itical party in the state, it was in- dicated. The two bodies are expected to op- erate jointly as an independent force in the national and state elections shis year. Goyernorship Mentioned Several candidates have been men- tioned for possible endorsement of the two non-partisan organizations for governor. Several leaders- early today predicted -the endorsement would go to Willis Mason ‘West, former head of the history depart- ment of the University of Minnesota, | e who has been farming near Grandl Rapids, for several years. A boom for .Mayor Victor Power of Hibbing for the_gubernatorial en- dorsement was brought down by delegates from the iron range, and he has considerable backing, they said. Lindbergh, were other pos- sible caniddates mentioned. = Lind- bergh was the league’s candidate two years ago and was defeated. Various delegation$ in both conventions today were expected to put up fights for endorsement of Her- bert Hoover and possibly Frank O. Lowden: Becouse of the endorsement of Maj. Gen.
