HEDEEN'S BROTHER IS John: Hedeen of the Pioneer force today received a card from his brother, C. L. Hedeen, sent from New York, which stated that he would go to sea aboard a United States torpedo boat the next morn- ing. The sea fighter has already served Uncle Sam’as a regular in the navy and has been a member of the Federal reserve for two years. Be- fore going East he was on the Bi- wabik Times. HOW ONE UNIVERSITY IS GIVING TO ITS COUNTRY About six hundred and fifty men of Northwestern university, the Methodist college at Evanston, IIL, have entered service for their coun- try one way or another. Over one hundred and fifty go to officers’ re- serve corps training camps. The Northwestern hospital unit, the first to be mobilized in Chicago, takes at least 150 undergraduates and prom- inent members of the medical fac- ulty. These will sail for France soon. Three hundred men from the medical and pharmacy schools have enlisted in five ambulance companies under the direction of a detailed army officer. Twenty-one of the most prominent students have al- ready sailed for Young Men’s Chris- tian Association prison camp work in Europe. Miss Vera Backus and Dr. Garlock of Bemidji are graduates of this uni- versity. TO JOIN HUSBANDS Mrs. William McDonald left this morning for Minneapolis where she will visit for a short time before go- ing to Philadelphia, where she will join her husband, Ensign McDonald, of the Fifth Minnesota naval divi- sion. Mrs. E. A. Barker, daughter, Verna, and son, Walter, will leave June 6 for Duluth. From there they will go to Philadelphia to join Lieut. E. A. Barker. Mrs. Guy A. Eaton of Duluth, wife of Capt. Eaton, will accompany them to Phila- delphia. TEACHERS LEAVING The majority of the Bemidji teach- ers are leaving today for their re- spective homes, a large number hav- ing stayed for the commencement ex- ercises last evening. GOES TO HOSPITAL Vergil Dechaineau, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alex Dechaineau, left last eve- ning for Minneapolis, where he will enter tne University hospital for treatment. SWEDISH SERVICES Rev. J. H. Randahl of Tenstrike is in the city today and will conduct services in the Swedish Lutheran church tomorrow. Rev. and Mrs. Randahl are spending the summer on their farm at Tenstrike. RETURN FROM HONEYMOON Dr. and Mrs. Daniel McCann will return today from Itasca State park where they have spent their honey- moon. Dr. McCann is one of the firm of Drs. Gilmore & McCann. His marriage to Miss Lenore Nehil of Hornell, N. Y., took place recently at the home of the bride. They will go to housekeeping in the George Anderson residence on Bemidji av- enue. TO NEW HOME Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Ekelund and daughters, Lyda, Aileen and Ethel, left this morning for Grand Rapids, Wis., where they will make their home. They are making the trip by automobile. They have made their home in Bemidji for the past two vears. in order that Mr. Ekelund, who is president of the Rood Con- struction company of Grand Rapids, might be able to attend to the busi- ness for the company in this viein- ity. C. W.
