There is just as much difference between true Socialism and anarchy as there is between day and night. And there are many who view Socialism in as many different lights. Practically everybody is a Socialist in some form or other, and one doesn’t have to be a member of a Socialist organization to be a socialist in some respects. The world war in which Germany is the objective point is not against the German people, one of the greatest peoples on the face of the earth, but. against Prussianism as represented by the “divine right of kings,” as has been in vogue for years and years. 3 It is to free the German peoples from the yoke of autocracy to which they are subservient that the United States entered the war, which would insure WORLD PEACE, and it is just that for which the Socialists of Burope would kick the Kaiser out from under his glittering crown that ALL may take part in selecting the administrators of the affairs of their country, and not be governed by any divine right of a king, but by the DIVINE RIGHT of the PEOPLE themselves. And there are many who are not. Socialists who are as heartily in favor of just such action. \ . Chamberlain’s Cough Remedy is quite different from the ordinary cough medicine, for it not only soothes but also heals, 8o that the effected parts are restored to a healthy condition and the danger of a future attack is removed. I firmly believe that it is the best and most reliable preparation ever pro- duced for coughs and colds.” e——" BEMIDJI HORSE MARKET We Buy and Sell Horses, Harnesses and Vehicles. BAILEY, Local Agent. IIHHn A VON BISSING (New York World) To preserve the memory of Gen. von Bissing, German governor gen- eral of Belgium, no monument of stone or bronze will ever be needed. For all time he will stand in history as the jailer and hangman of Bel- gium, one of the most execrated figures of the war. A man not without certain amiable qualities, it was von Bissing’s lot to be placed in a position where the whole world came to know him as the perfect type of Prussian military oppressor. He was part of a machine. which operated ruthlessly and with the sole purpose of crushing into ab- ject submission a people that German autocracy had first wronged, then conquered. He had but one thought -in obedience to orders, to hold the Belgians underfoot, and he did his work well. ' It was a brutal task, for which he proved his fitness, whether in starv- ing the Belgians under his care or shooting an Englishwoman nurse in need of his mercy. Throughout all history his name will be coupled in the Low Countries with that of the duke of Alva. : There are several residents of Bemidji who claim to be some pumpkins when it comes to playing golf and tramping over a large tract of ground for exercise, and Tom Smart and John Moberg, who are two of the cap- tains of work to be done on the Jefferson highway May 1, are curious to know just how much figure some of these cow pasture pool players will cut with a shovel on an earth road. Come on, some of you fellows who used to have to wear a blue shirt and overalls, get in the game on the Jefferson Highway May 1 and show *em how you us d to do it. They'll think you are a REAL one, sure’ nuff, if you do. In the excitement of the moment, don't forget that the preacher will have a few words of cheer for vou on Sunday. It costs nothing and is worth more—a ‘‘spiritual bargain,” as it were. You like to ride on a good road. Get out May 1 You've got to do your Hey, Mr. Autoist! and help the bunch fix up the Jefferson Highway. bit, too, you know. 1 traffic guides for the business dis- s and all drivers of vehicles obey the Now that the city has purchas triet it should be seen to that autoi traffic ordinance. There is considerable garden space being devoted to the planting of onions in Bemidji and we suspeet there will be several strong talks later in Bemidji. The girl who is unable to find an ideal man is generally willing to accept something *‘just as good.” Carranza insists Mexico is neutral. Rush an army to the border! Your Country!
