i § [ [ ‘ % | I GOVERNOR PROMISES FULL INQUIRY (Continued from Page 1) county ditch bonds of $765,000 with- out endeavoring to procure competi- tive bids, and with causing appoint- ment of two men as fiscal agents of the county and voting to pay them 5% per cent commission on the sales, all of which was unnecessary, ac- cording to the complaint. A further allegation is that these agents, George A. Elder and J. A Duify, claimed to be representing the Commercial Investment company and the Farmers State bank of Red Lake Falls, respectively, but were in fact, according to the information and be- lief of the petitioners, acting in their own behalf. Cost County $42,075. This transaction is alleged to have cost the county $42,075. Both com- missioners, it is charged, were in col- lusion with Elder and Duffy under an understanding that they were to pro- fit. Othen charges allege improper action on road contracts. County Attorney Franz Jevne said friends of the three commissioners against whom charges were filed, are anxious to see the two remaining members of the board, John Bursack and M. A. Ulvedahl, brought into the investigation. “They contend that the votes were unanimous in these matters,” said Mr. Jevne, “and that all should fare alike. These charges have been fly- ing about for two years and it is thought best now to have a thorough investigation to clear the air.” ~ Brown Commissioner. Last Saturday the governor ap- pointed Attorney M. J. Brown of Be- midji a commissioner to take the tes- timony. L. W. Wilson, Virginia, has been appointed temporary county auditor by the governor. He will serve at least until Sept. 16, at which time the board of county commissioners is scheduled to meet. Citizens Urge Action. Late Thursday Governor Burn- quist received a telegram from eciti- zens at Northome, Koochiching coun- ty, which read: “Stand pat and give Koochiching county a thorough investigation. The people want it. Be not deceived.” County Commissioner John Bur- sack hepded the signers, who included Add A. Tone, J. E. Cowan, John Neary, Joseph A. Jones, E. W. Gos- line, H. J. Engelking, Ed H. Engel- king, C. V. Corson, R. H. Collar, W. E. Thayer, E. A. Fedmann, J. W. Feld- mann, C. W. Field, L. D. Beach, A. E. Aaberg, William Durren and M. C. Paul. Governor Burnquist replied by wire: “It is my intention to have the in- vestigation continued as far as the law will permit.” . —— ¥* Mina A. Myers.
