| 3 THE BEMIDI DAILY PIONEER PIGKIT PLEADS NOT GUILTY; SMITH SIGK St. Paul, Minn.,, Feb. 14—R. C. Pickit, former clerk of the state in- vestment board, who is alleged to be implicated in irregularities in the of- fice of the state today pleaded not guilty when arraigned on indictments returned by the Ram- sey county grand jury. He was held on $5,000 bonds which he was un- able to secure this morning. He stated that he would secure the bonds this afternoon. ‘Walter J. Smith, former state treas- urer, who was also indicted by the grand jury, was still confined to the Gatlin institute in Minneapolis and was unable to be arraigned. Pickit’s trial is set for next Mon- day. treasurer, H. C. Baer, cashier of the Security State bank, returned this morning from Minneapolis where he has been for a short time on business. He is confined to his home with the grip, which he contracted while on the trip.
