Minnesota week is being observed by all the newspapers of the state. The plan was started by members of the Minnesota State Editorial as- sociation with an idea of advertising the great resources of the state. The Bemidji Pioneer today pub- lishes on the first page its first ar- ticle of the week entitled “Home- Minnesota-Home.” Governor W. S. Hammond has is- sued the following proclamation in regard to Minnesota week: “To the publishers and readers of Minnesota newspapers: “My attention has been called to the proposed “Newspaper Week,” October 10 to 16, by a committee of the Minnesota Editorial associa- tion. Permit me to say that I ap- prove most heartily of this plan to advertise Minnesota and trust that many papers will join in the move- ment to give special mention that week of the great and varied re- sources of the state, its rich farm- ing country producing bread, butter and beef sufficient to feed millions, its vast forests, its great mineral wealth, its lakes and streams and beautiful scenery. Every mewspaper in the state can with pride call at- tention to its own prosperous com- munity ““The publicity given to the re- sources of our state will give our citizens renewed appreciation of the opportunities’ ‘before them 'for ac- quiring the ‘necessities and comforts of“lffe!” But if thé staté is to" de- rive’ the full ‘benefit, ' ‘Newspaper ‘Week’ should als6 bé a medans 'of calling the attention of people in other states to our “healthful’ cli- mate and fertile soil, to the quan- tity, quality and variety of the prod- ucts of MinnesGta.”"The publiskers must have the co-operation “of " pri- vate citizens and civic organizations. One effective way in which they can aid is by obtaining copies of their local papers during ‘Newspaper Week’ and sending them to their friends in other states. To do thig will_help in finding new markets and creating new demands for the products of Minnesutn farms and fac- torles, and will aid in bringing set- tlers to, the nnoccupied lands still tonnd in some of our countteu 3 GOSSIP.
