Should the vote of the ward be ousted, because of illeg- al voting and other violations of the law, changes will also be made in the election of mayor and city clerk. The loss of saloons will be of value and much benefit to the border city and as an example we cite Bemidji. One More Week Left. One week from today the thirty- ninth Minnesota legislature will ad- journ and with this point in mind the leaders in both houses are rush- ing their work with all possible haste, many bills being passed during the past few days. ZAbout two hundred new laws have been placed on the statute books anid the chief matter of concern just now is the omnibus appropriation bill. Tt carries departmental appropriations of $5,213,397, which is $113,890 less than the amount granted by the leg- islature two years ago. It is in the omnibus bill that $50, 000 will be appropriated for the building of the state’s sixth Normal scho 1 in this eity, the appropriatioy commitiee of the house and the finance committee of the senate hav- ing agreed that the establishment ot the institution is a necessity. One thing is assured and that is the total appropriations this year will be considerably under two years ago and the state tax lavy for revenu2 purnoses will be less. To those who gauge the average legislative body by the number of}: laws it places on the statute books, the present session of the lawmakers is possibly looked upon as a failure, but there is one thing to its credit | and that is the determination of a majority of the two bodies to keep down to the minimum the biennial raid on the state treasury. The cut has been all down the line. Gordon. De- feated by the booze crowd for speak- er, nevertheless he has dominated the work of the session, and except for his wise leadership the house would have adjourned with a.record [ of little or no constructive legisla- tion accomplished. Gordon is one of the state’s big men.—Long Prairie Leader. —— 3 The good road movement was given quite a setback when the Elwell law was repealed by the legislature and the Dunn law amended so as to re- move some of its best features. The laws in question were opposed by the people in those parts of the state where the development work has been done, and the northern parts have been left without adequate means of carrying out the large road projects proposed.—Aurora News. —— it You fellows who seem to enjoy rap- ping the present legislature, stop and ponder a moment.
