Stanton and Lee La- Baw, court reporter; returned to Re- midji last night from International Falls where they have been in court during the past week, the Algot Erickson vs. the Minnesota & On- tario Power company case being on trial. The case was dismissed fol- lowing a motion by the defendaut Tuesday. Numerous points of law arose upon which Judge Stanton, hav- ing no precedent in the matters, did not feel privileged to act. These points will have to be decided by the state supreme court and the cases re- maining will then be tried before the district court at Imternational Falls. The court found difficulty in placing the responsibility ‘for any -alleged damage since it is doubtful which, if any, four companies are to blame. The Minnesota & _Ontario Power company, the Rainy: River Improve- ment company, the company and the fiqtarln & Minne- sota company, Ltd., all possess inter- | ests in the territory in question and all have the same president, E. W. Backus: This resulted in a very dif- ficult and- tangled-situation, ~which the court decided -would- ‘& -bettar action will result in saying of large sums of money to defendant, plain- tiff and county.
