REFUGEES SUFFER GREATLY Thirteen Survivors of Fire at Sea Reach Boston. Boston, May S.—\When the Cunard Jiner Franconia from Liverpool ar- rived, bringing thirtcen members of the crew of the burned steamer Co- umbian, rescued from a boat south of Sable island, several of the survivors were suffering severely from burns and all showed the effects of exposure. The body of Chief Steward Matthews, who died from burns while in the open boat, also was brought by the Franconia. James Dronan, the wireless operator of the Columbian, expressed the opin- jon that spontaneous combustion in the cargo of rags and junk caused the fire. He said he was awakened by the explosion shortly before midnight Sunday night and when he rushed out on deck the vessel was in flames.
