The troops of our cause were every- where triumphant.” This was the statement of General Venustiano Carranza following the re- ceipt of dispatches from General Villa announcing rout of the federal forces under General Velasco, General de la Moure and General Amgeles, with 3,- 500 killed and wounded. The dis- patches announced that the federal forces were in full flight. Carranza refused to discuss the ar- rest ‘of American marines at Tampico last week orthe activity of the At- lantic fleet of the American navy. He said he might make a statement later. Among Carranza’s officers there is a general feeling that the Tampico affair is wholly a matter between Huerta and the government of the United States and that Mexico as a nation is not involved. The Consti- tutionalists say they do not intend to interfere if the United States finds it necessary to go to war with Huerta. Dr. Charles McCarthy, in charge of the legislation reference library at Madison, Wis., will lead the attack on the Moss-Fletcher bill in an address before the convention. The bill will then be presented to the -conference for endorsement. There has been no loss of life reported, although a number of homesteaders’ shacks were in the path of the conflagration. The fire headed for this village, but .when within a mile of the river the wind shifted and the fire burned | itself out. Thirty thousand acres are said to have been burned over. Four Killed in Collision. Georgetown, Tex., April 16.—Four men were instantly killed and two se- riously injured when a Houston and Texas Central passenger train struck an automobile returning to the town of Florence. Vincent Astor Is Improving. New York, April 16.—The condition of Vincent Astor, who became sud- denly ill Monday in Staatsburg, N. Y., at the home of his fiancee, Miss Helen Dinsmore Huntington, daugh- ter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert P. Hunt- ington, is reported improved. It is believed that the crisis has been passed.
