Columbus, O., April 3.—Information received by Ohio coal operators in this city was to the effect that only one mine is being operated in this state. The operators estimated that 50, 000 men, including miners, dock men and others, are idle as a result of the suspension incident to the fail- ure of men and operators to agree upon-terms. - It was said at the headquarters of | the miners’ organization in this city that the idle miners will receive financial support from the mine work- ers’ international organization, prac- tically upon the same basis as if a strike was in progress. Leeds, Eng., April 3.—All coal miners in Yorkshire, numbering 170, 000, had left the pits when the last of the notices to quit work expired. The men demanded the introduction of a minimum wage scale. Duluth, April 3.—An eight-year-old girl and her rescuer were injured se riously by vicious attacks and scores narrowly escaped'injury when a bear broke his chain in a shed at; the rear of Mrs. Mary Nonnemacher’s home and ran amuck. Lottie Sanders is at a hospital as the result of scalp wounds inflicted by the animal and John Bergman’s hands and face were lacerated. Both will recover. The bear, a cub, had been the pet of Mrs. Nonnemecher. The bear was shot by a policeman. TWENTY NATIVES ARE KILLED Fifty Others Injured in Railroad Dis- aster . in Java. Batavia, Java, April 3.—Twenty na tives were killed and fifty others in- jured by the derailment of a train while it was crossing a bridge near Tanjong Priok, six miles from this city.
