Published every ursday and sent postage paid to any widress for $1.50 in advance. THIS PAPER REPRESENTED FOR FOREIGN - ADVERTISING BY THE GENERAL OFFICES NEW YORK AND CHICAGO BRANCHES IN ALL THE PRINCIPAL CITIES KKK KKKKK KKK KN * EDITORIAL EXPLOSIONS * KKK KK KK KKK KK The White House bridegroom evi- dently did not lack friends, as a bar- rel of apples and one of potatoes were included in the gifts.—Times. PN The Duluth Herald wants the friends of “Jimmy” Boyle to hold their horses a bit, otherwise his boom for congress will wear itself out. All right, for one the Indepen- dent will hold itself in reserve for when the call comes.—Itasca County Independent. e All is not serene in the ranks of Minnesota Democracy. Former Boss Frank A. Day, in his newspaper, the Fairmont Sentinuel, is furious be- cause Daniel W. Lawler has an- nounced himself a candidate for the Democratic nomination for governor. Frank says that Lawler’s lawless ac- tion will result probably in spilling all the Democratic beans. There are days on which Frank advocates rule by the people, and there are other days, when rule by Frank A. Day seems much more desirable. —Wadena Journal. 2l —— If a country newspaper were to at tempt to publish one-tenth of the “stuff” sent in for publicatien by various individuals, societies, politi- cians, ete., it would have to install three or four type-setting'machines, and keep them in operation day and night, including Sundays and holi- days. One of the first moves in the organization of any kind of a society is the creation of a press agent; but no thought is ever given to the crea- tion of a press fund to pay for any of the advertising sought.—Interlake Tribune. —— Some newspapers are getting ex- cited over a new law which requires the publication of proceedings of boards of cducation. If they have any school districts in their territory which are composed of ten-or more townships, they can demand copy for publication. But all school boards should publish an annual fin- ancial statement. The people who supply the money should be satisfied as to how much is paid out and for what. This is due to the tax payers. —Buffalo Journal. __JOHN F. FITZGERALD. Mayor of Boston Withdraws From Contest for Re-election. Boston, Dec. 19.—Mayor John F. Fitzgerald has announced his with- drawal from the mayoraly contest. Ilness which kept him in bed ten days after bhe collapsed while investi- gating the lodging house fire is given as< the on mx his acticn. il The popular shoulder yokes which appear on most of the new blouses aid materially in bringing about the broad shouldered effect that is so fashionable this season. In 7636 the yoke extends along the back and forms the low shoulders into which the sleeves are slightly fulled. If crepe de CHine, cotton crepe or any of the softer materials are used corded seams are effective where the body of the blouse joins the yoke and the sleeve the armhole. A thick cot- ton cord is used for this purpose, being covered with a bias strip of the mate- rial and stitched in with the seam. With this design a flat rolled or a standing collar may be used. The.pattern is cut in 5 sizes; 34 to 42. This Is a Perfect Pattern. Be sure to state right size, measuring over the fullest part of the bust for di- mensions, It may be obtained by filling out the coupon and enclosing 15 cents in stamps or coin to the Pattern Depart- ment of this paper.
