Chicago, Nov. 3.—Judge Cooper re fused to grant new trials to two men convicted of murders committed with automobiles. 5 These are the first instances in Il- nois of conviction and sentence for murder when the point at issue was whether an automobile is a deadly weapon. The defendants, Frank Hrodek and Laurence Lindblom, were convicted in Judge Cooper’s branch of the crim: inal court of Cook county, respective ly of killing Patrick J. Condon, a re tired merchant, and Joseph Weliss, a cigar manufacturer. In both cases testimony was ad duced tending to show that both de fendants had been drinking and were driving without the slightest regard to the safety of pedestrians.
