Oct. 29.—General, ix Digz applied to the American, cersulaté during the night for protec. tion and was taken on board the United States gunboat Wheeling. Jose Sandoval and Cecilio Ocon, two Mexicans, and Alexander Will- iams, an American newspaper cor- respondent, who had made similar ap- plications to the consulate, also were taken on board the gunboat. The flight of Diaz and companions ‘took place. after midnight, the three men taking the risk of an excursion over the rooftops which were guarded by armed men, into the American con- sulate, General Diaz, with General Sando- val and Cecillo Ocon, dropped over a low wall and made their way into one of the rear rooms of the consulate. They informed Consul Canada that they were to be shot at daylight and appealed for protection.
