Instead of the old straw hat with ear holes, a Kansas farmer has pro- vided his buggy horse with .a can- opy which protects the flanks as well as the head of the animal. -The canopy; which is made of imitation leather, and is provided with a fringe to discourage the flies, is attached to the shafts by four metal supports. Hall, hearty and brown as a nut, | Andrew Koehn arrived in Bemidji last evening froz: L.kc way to the gulf in a row boat. An- drew made quite a hit with the spec- tators at the dock when he arrived. He reached Bemidji about 8 o’clock, took lunch at Dalton’s and retired to his bunk in his boat for the night, leaving at four o’clock this morning. Besides the experience, Mr. Koehn is .:getting considerable advertising. The Northern Minnesota Editorial outing held in Bemidji June 13, 14 and 16 would not have been complete, had the “Old Reliable” Charles T. +Kelley, of Menahga, been missing. Although his name was inadvertantly left from the list in Monday’s Pion- eer, he and his good wife were con- apicuous ~among the boosters of Northern Minnesota. At Boosters meetings, ever since they were start- || ed in this section of the state Kelley has always been.one of the faithful ones,.and the one thing this section of the state regrets is that there are not more men of the Kelley type in their midst. Kelley was among -us .and those who were here knew that he was here, and we in Bemidji feel proud to.announce to those who were not present that Charles T. Kelley and wife, publishers of the Menahga Journal, one of the liveliest-papers in the -state were among our guests. Best Bark for Tanning Leather. -Quebracho bark, one of the chief ex.
