Wesley Peik, superintendent of schools at Blackduck, came to Be- midji this morning and is the guest of Harold J. Dane. Mr. Peik and Mr. Dane were college classmates. The stockholders of the Northern National Bank have large property holdings in this city and the sur- rounding country and consequently their interests are idemtical with New York, Nov. 9.—Mrs. Frank H. Jones of Chicago, who before her marriage, a few months ago, was Mrs. Nellie Grant Sartoris, has re- ceived $5,000 from Lloyd’s of Lon- don as’insurance on an emerald ring valued at $25,000, which was lost while she was a guest at the Hotel Renaissance in this city. The ring was given Mrs. Jones’' father Gen- eral U. S. Grant, while he was mak- ing a tour of the world after his sec- ond term as president. She says the ring slipped from her finger into the wash bowl, and after she notified the hotel management of its loss the plumbing was inspected and the sew- er was examined for two blocks with- out finding the gem. Lloyd’s has now offered a reward of $5,000 for the return of the ring. W. A. Gpuld is recovering rapidly and is now able to sit up. H. 0. Bjoring, of Wilton, was in the city today on business.
