DAWN, maitor. Bemidji Hospitality, “Thie ‘Word Hias gone over the state|” that there are'no farmers in Beltrami county. It was due mainly to the fact that the Northern Pacific agri- cultiral train 'wis lere early Mon- day morning and that the men with it were disappointed because the farmers did not turn out in numbers at that time' of 'day ‘and ‘week. 'At press time today it is still too early to tell whether or not enough farm- . ers have come in to see the Soo train "'fo convince the state men that we have a thrifty farming community' in this “$88ti6n’ of Northsrn Minnesota. |- There is one thing, however, 'of Wwhich theses visitors may be com- vinced. Théy may be shown that the ‘hospitality “of the ‘city is unlimited ‘and that the stranger within the ‘gatés 'is one 0f us. ‘They ‘may be shown’ that Bemidji is the home of a large number of wide awake men who are ever eager to learn what they may and listen with respecttul attention to those ‘Who come in from the outside. The first, “The Nérth Woods,” wag issued by the Minnesota Forestry as- sociation and the state forest serv- ice. ‘The‘bulletin is'bound in a neat paper cover and the cover shows a monster bull moose crossing a shal- low river. W. T. Cox, state forester, contrib- utes an article on “Wild Game in Minnesota,” and says that the trouble is that ‘most “Peoplo live in Southern or Central Minnesota and know Iit- tle of the thousands of inhabitants of forest and “priirie ‘which present fair marks to the hunter. ‘He speaks of the caribou and moose north of Red Lake but says that the Indian hunters will soon clean these herds out. Another “article ‘on “Where to go for Good Huntidg,” ‘sdys: “Bemidj— Ducks, deer, moose and chickens, Guides—F. A. Chapman, John Ross, and J. P. Johnson. Good hotel ac- commodations.” 'The bulletin wis recéitly “distfibuted ‘at a meeting of the state forest rangers which was held in Cloquet and attended by L.} F. Johnson, the locdl ranger. The second bulletin is “Minnesota by Countiés,” ‘which was recently is- “sued by ‘the state board of immigra- tion through the commissioner, H. J. Maxfield. The booklet contains sev- eral ‘pages of ‘statistics of Minnesota ‘glving the “area,’ production of food stuffs in 1911, production of live stock during the same year, altitude, baxks, population of leading cities, figurés on ‘¢liniate and rainfall ‘and on the dairying industry of the state, 'The ‘history ‘of the state s given in a brief form and something is told of the ‘hunting and fishing, iron “mines; Idkeés, libraries, newspapers, manufactures, railways and rivers, state institutions, lands and water -power. It also gives a tableof state ‘welghts. . At tea time other callers arrived, ‘and by way of making con- versation one of them said to me very sweetly: “‘We hear you've been iying down.’ "—Harper’s Basar.
