Governor Osborn, of Michigan, come out openly with his support of ‘Woodrow Wilson for the presidency. for many years and was one of the most ardent supporters of Theodore Roosevelt at the Chicago convention. Governor Osborn says that the nomination of Woodrow Wilson does away with the necessity for a third party as the third party backers wanted a progressive candidate and Wilson is such a man. He further states that any Republican can vote for Wilson with a clear conscience and no fear of going back on his par- ty because the real Republican party has no nominee this year. Taft was forced on the Chicago delegates in spite of all that those who represent- ed Republican states could do. He was nominated by votes of delegates from Democratic states. Theodore Roosevelt says that the third party movement will be econ- tinued but many who might have supported it had neither Wilson nor Bryan been nominated will nét do so now. They form a large element who belleved that at least ome presiden- tial candidate should be a progressive and were willing to form a third par- ty, if necessary, to get a progressive in the field. The Roosevelt movement is now becoming a personal one and is apt to cause as much fear as the Woodrow Wilson will draw a large support from the Republican party this fall and his supporters will not lose caste either. There will bs many Republicans who will cry “Reg- ularity” and “Stay with the Party,” but the rank and file will repudiate the Chicago robbery by voting in a Democratic president. THIS IS MY 69th BIRTHDAY. Charles Henry Morgan, Charles Henry Morgan, who served almost thirty-five years as one of the Missouri representatives in congress, retiring in March of last year, was born.in New York state, July 5, 1843, and was educated in the public schools of Wisconsin. From a farm near Fond du Lac he enlisted in a Wisconsin volunteer regiment at the beginning of the civil war. He was promoted to first lieutenant and cap- tain. His war record in one respect is unique. He was captured five times by the confederates and con- fined successively in Libby prison, Richmond; at Macon, Ga., Charles- ton, 8. C., and Columbia, S. C. He was recaptured four times, but at the fifth attempt he made the union lines. After the war Mr. Henry studied law and located in Barton county, Mis- souri, where he served four years as prosecuting attorney. He was a mem- ber of the Missouri legislature from 1872 until 1874 and a year later he began his career in congress. Congratulations to: Joseph B. Foraker, former govery _nor of Ohio and United States sena- tor, sixty-six years old today. ' Benjamin F. Bush, president of the Missouri Pacific railway system, fifty- two years old today. Robert Bacon,, who some time ago resigned the post of United States Ambassador to France to become a member of the Harvard university corporation, fifty-two years old today. THIS DATE IN HISTORY.
