Gardener Killed by Lightning Under Its Spreading Branches, One of the famous trees of the world is known as Spurgeon’s poplar. It stands in Clapham common, one of the many open spaces in the south of Lon- don. The tree is more than a century old, but has recently started to decay, and it is feared that it will soon die. The tree gets its name from the Rev. Charles H. Spurgeon, for many years a Photo by American Press Assoclation. SPURGEON’S POPLAR IN LONDON. popular Baptist minister in London. Many years ago a gardener took refuge under the tree during a storm. The tree was struck by lightning, and the gardener was killed. The next Sunday Mr. Spurgeon held services under the tree, and after a moving discourse he took up a collection for the dead gar- dener’s family. A large sum was rais- ed by those who had listened to the elo- quent sermon. Some years ago the tree was again struck by lightning, and the damage inflicted by this second bolt has fur- thered the work of destruction. The tree has long been protected by an iron railing, and a young poplar has started to grow by the parent trunk, so that when the old tree dies the new one will take its place. A HARMLESS WAY T0 DARKEN THE_HAIR A Little Sage and Sulphur Makes Gray Hair Vanish—A Remedy For. All Hair Troubles Who does not know the value of Sage and Sulphur for keeping the hair dark, soft and glossy and in good condition? As a matter of fact, Sulphur is a natural element of hair, and a deficiency of it in the hair is held by many scalp specialists to be connected with loss of color and vi- tality of the hair. Unquestionably, there is no better remedy for hair and scalp troubles, especially prema- ture, grayness, than Sage and Sul- phur, if properly prepared. The Wyeth Chemical Company of New York put out an ideal prepara- tion of this kind, called Wyeth’s Sage and Sulphur Hair Remedy, in which Sage and Sulphur are combin- ed with other valuable remedies for keeping the hair and scalp in clean, healthy condition. If. your hair i3 loosing its color or constantly coming out, or if you are troubled with dandruft or dry, itchy scalp, get a fifty cent bottle of] Wyeth’s Sage and Sulphur from your druggist, use it according to the simple directions, and see what a difference a few days’ treatment will make in the appearance of your hair. All druggists sell it, under guaran- tee, that the money will be refunded it the remedy is not exactly as rep- resented. : Overstraining. Some persons, I know, estimate hap- plness by fine houses, gardens and parks—others by pictures, horses, money and various things wholly re- mote from their own speeches; but when I wish to ascertain the real felicity of any ratlonal man, I always inquire’ whom he has to love.
