Ninety tons of powder have been stored in the basement of the capitol at St. Paul by Adjutant General Wood, but a match dropped into it would not cause as much havoc as the failure of the incoming legislature to pass a just reappoition- ment bill. Because it was a physical impos- sibility to set the type, the Pioneer the past few days has been compel- led to refuse advertisements from Bemidji business firms. There has been no attempt to crowd any single issue with Christmas gift publicity. The advertisement have come as a healthy sign of Bemidji’s prosperity and as the most substantial compli- ment to the Pineer in its effort to make the paper a credit to the town. The patronage from the advertisers meansgadded improvements to the Pioneer and as a real newspaper must of necessity be the town’s best friend a condition is produced that must be gratifying to all who wish to see the city and county advance. THERE'S A REASON. This from the Leader—tbat’s its name, not its description—-pub- lished at Hutchinson: “The state should be reappor- tioned all right—but such meetings as was held at Brainered last week don’t help matters any.” According to the last census McLeod county, in which Hutchia- son is located, has a population of 18,691, and is rzpresented in the state legislature by a senator and representative, Beltrami county with a popula- tion of 19,786 has neither a senator or represertative, No wonder the ‘“Leader” dosen’t believe in such gatherings as the Brainerd convention, PRIZE WINNERS.- What Minnesota can produce in corn, peas, pumpkins, squash, wax and string beans, pork and beans and tomatoes, was never shown tol| better advantage that at the covent- ion of the Minnesota Canners’ asso- ciation which has just closed its an- nual convention in the old state capitol, St. Paul.
