SIX MORE ARE DISMISSED Since Second Trial of Lee O'Neil Browne on Bribery Charge Began Court Has Been Compelled to Re- lease More Than One Hundred Men Called for Jury Service Because They Had Been Approached. Chicago, Aug. 19.—Judge Kersten, in whose court Lee O’'Neil Browne is up for retrial on a charge of buying votes for Senator Lorimer, was compelled to dismiss six more veniremen. This makes 111 veniremen dismissed from the last three panels upon their own statements that they have been “ap- proached” with reference to their pos- sible service as jurors, “I do not know who is tampering with the veniremen,” said the court. “I do not take sides, but some one is doing corrupt work. I sincerely hope we will find out who is guilty and that they will be brought to the bar of jus- tice. They are making a travesty of the administration of the law.” The court’s remarks were addressed to the lawyers and veniremen general- ly. Attorney Erbstein answered: “I will say that the investigators for the defense have not gone near the homes of veniremen. I told our agents that they must not do so or I would bring them into court. The power, of the state’s attorney’s office has been used to discredit the defense. There is a plot on foot to that end.” State’s Attorney Wayman had as- cended the bench and was sitting near the judge when Mr. Erbstein conclud- ed his remarks. “Tommyrot,” was all the comment the prosecutor made. T. G. Mathers, chief justice of the king’s bench of Manitoba, a guest of Judge Kersten, was an interested spec- tator during the proceedings.
