True. But the man who gets two votes where he got one at the last election,is the man whowill bring home the turkey.—Nor- man County Herald, One blot appears on the escutchion of the state Republican convention. That is the yielding to the steel in- terests and nominating Judge Brown instead of Judge Lewis to the Sup- reme Court. Aside from the fact that it hurt Duluth’s man, Judge Dibell, it put the convention on record as being an interest organi- zation. Congress in finding it hard to clear its skirts of this charge, and what can the party in Minnesota hope to do with this stain on its record? No matter how much the Duluth papers may talk, the people of the rest of the state are satisfied in their own minds that the opposition to Judge Lewis came because of his stand in a Supreme Court decision that was unfavorable to the U. S. Steel company, The Republican state convention proved false to the people when it refused to renominate Judge Lewis. The question was not one of the fitness of the candidates, for all are competent men. Itis wholly whether or not the Minnesota Supreme Court shall be maintained upon a plane of integrity and honor and whether or not fearless dis- charge of duty is to drag the judici- ary down in the dust of dirty politics. On the tonnage tax question, which came up before the Supreme Court, Judge Lewis could have voted against it without affecting the final decision of the court, but he did his duty as an honest and faithful judge, even if it displeased his home county and sounded his political knell. That Duluth was out to knife Lewis rather than elect Dibell is shown by the way the delegation switched to Brown on the second ballot. The case has another side.
