CALLS IT A GREAT BOOST Boclalist Editor's Opinion of Taft's Reference to Socialism. Chicago, June 7.—President Taft has “boosted” the Socialist party by his Michigan addresses of Friday and Saturday, directed against it, in the opinion of A. M, Simons, editor of the Daily Socialist and national commit- |+’ teeman of the party. “The most important thing about the president’s address {s that he has pub- licly recognized the existence of the great socialist movement,” he said. “This is a great step forward. It is something American statesmen have overlooked heretofore. It has helped the movement. % The president does not understand socialism. He does not understand its co-operative beliefs. He said social- ism stood for the co-operative enjoy- ment of everything and anything, but it stands “only for co-operative owner- ship ;of those things that must be used.” HOUSE AND SENATE DISAGREE Deadlocked on Bill for Keep of Can- non’s and Sherman’s Autos. ‘Washington, June 7.—A deadlock has developed between the two branches of congress on the question of having the government pay for the keep of the autos used by Vice Presi- dent Sherman and Speaker Cannon. Congress gave the gavel wielders automobiles for use during their offi- clal terms. This session an effort has been made to get into the legislative bill an appropriation of $2,600 for the chauffering and other expenses of each of the machines next year. The house, after a lively debate, decided that the vice president and speaker should pay their own automo- bile expenses, but the senate reinsert- ed two $2,500 items, Chamberlain’s ~Stomach and Liver Tablets will brace up the nerves, banish sick head-ache, prevent despondency and invigor- ate.the whole system.
